Design Folios with Google Maps

Using an application, like CASA’s Image Cutter or the Automatic Tile Cutter, you can create your own map tiles for Google Maps. This means that you can replace image map tiles with any image tiles you like including other maps, or more importantly for designers and artist, replace them with portfolio images!

Here are some 5 examples of design portfolios using Google Maps:

All you need to do is create map tiles from a collage of work. The Google Maps’ navigation tools can then be used to zoom in on designs and map markers to provide further information about an individual work.

Some of the first to make use of this technology were game fans, producing maps for World of Warcraft and Grand Theft Auto.

At first, I didn’t get why it was even anything I would even consider. Cool, yes. But when I checked out Blaubo Design’s site, it clicked.

Very cool, thanks.

I also thought of also using Google Maps API to develop an online portfolio as “light box”, but it turned out to be too complex to add desired functionalities into it.

I rather cooked a specific solution based on jquery.

Google has decided that its users of their well-liked Google Maps service will begin becoming charged a fee for utilizing their service. Websites that are going embedding a Google Map of their location will be charged a fee for usage. This new Google Maps fee is going to hit mostly the bigger companies, particularly the Travel industry. I suspect that certain websites that are the heaviest users would be websites like TripAdvisor and Expedia.^*

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of
this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging
to get that “perfect balance” between usability
and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a suuperb job with this.
Additionally, the blog loawds extremely quick for me on Chrome.
Superb Blog!

Thanks to Free Soundcloud Downloader, I now
have more time to discover more new artists, bands. The track “Murderous Face” is my favorite from this Sound
- Cloud album, as it slows down the pace and shows that this band can properly
explore slower tempos. The reason for night vision is to expand our range of vision.
