Thanks for sharing these tips with us. I liked especially what you said at number 10. Indeed, if a clients has to do with repeated, little (but nevertheless annoying) mistakes, he will eventually drop you.

Very seldom we find such good reads on the internet. The tips were excellent. The love the first point where it explains the importance of choosing right clients in the first place. Point no. 8 is also very important of letting the client interact with one person only.

Thanks for the tips, some of them are common sense but the others are just plain value. Especially number 8 which helped me realize i am having a much too complicated relationship with one of my clients. As a personal note, i always drop suggestions and tips to clients after the job has been finished, whenever i find some time to track the project after it's completion. I guess this could be filed under the little things you mentioned in point 10.

Every point a winner and a list I wish I'd had 15 years ago...most were learned the hard way. Thanks for distilling them here.

I agree with everything you have here, great write up. Another thing I normally think about when working with a new client is exposure and other work that I might gain by working with them (sister companies, friends of the company, etc.) One thing I've learned is that business owners are always friends with other business owners, and they talk to eachother a lot. Making a good impression and building a relationship with one business owner can have huge returns through this.
