The site was originally launched while working/ travelling through Europe. Many people assume this is where the name comes from. This was a bonus secondary meaning. Heavy Backpack is inspired by the moral story following.
A father and young son planned a day trip to hike a nearby large hill. As the journey began the young boy was excitedly running up and down the path jumping from side to side coming dangerously close to the edges of the steep narrowing way. The father asked to borrow his son’s backpack and while the boy was not looking, filled his bag with large rocks. As the journey continued the young boy was weighed down by the heavy load and could only concentrate on the path ahead. On arrival at the peak the boy unloaded his luggage. Discovering the stones he began angrily questioning his father. His father explained to him that if not for the load, he would have been injured or fallen to his death and not have reached the top.
Heavy Backpack is the necessary burden we all carry that allows us to achieve.
This is a Creative Catalogue. A showcase of the shit hot, and a space to promote talent in art, design, and moving image. It’s a design portal or a graphic focussed blog or whatever. This is a space that provides insights into creatives dealing in the visual medium. It showcases many styles and various artistic backgrounds. Promoting individuals, collectives, companies, and their creative work.
Individuals are chosen to be profiled by invitation only. In the past, most artists typically chosen were under exposed talent with inspirational works to offer the design community. In addition to these talented individuals we will also be profiling more established artists that have had an impact on the industry. We are always very interested in recommendations (yourself included). Inform us through the ‘Contact Us’ section.
Just let us know if you’re interested. If we agree it’s fitting, we’ll send you the specs.
Launched by Rhett Dashwood in September 2001, the site has seen many iterations. The current version was last re-launched in Dec 2006 and created by husband and wife team Rhett and Maggy Dashwood.
We encourage all to submit their work, and if not initially chosen to resubmit in future. Hopefully you can recognise that we have a high quality filter on what gets shown and can admire previously selected works. You can be assured that all links submitted get checked.
